MUSICAL DIALOGUES

Wednesday 6 April 2016

musical dialogues
styles, instruments, repertoires
rural and urban, music and speech

The Workshop for Printed and Digital Documentation and Validation of Greek Music of the School of Popular and Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute of Epirus organizes two concerts/lectures, involving musicians and musicologists.

These events will be held at the Amphitheatre of the Karolos Papoulias Congress Hall of the University of Ioannina, following the invitation of the Speech and Art Committee.

More specifically, two musicologists will introduce two musicians, performing on stage while explaining; helping the audience to understand the technical, historical and aesthetical stakes of the art that they perform.

The purpose is not only to present a musicology lesson, but to access, more easily, music which seems familiar but in essence is largely unfamiliar, to mitigate the usual stereotypes concerning all types of dipoles (scholarly-popular, rural-urban, traditional-contemporary etc.) and generally to consider pieces which are intensely 'emotionally charged' for the general public via multiple perspectives.
